Erin, 20, grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba and is presently attending the University of Ottawa. She is currently working through her second year studying a specialization in English Literature with a minor in Communication and working at Second Cup. She is loving absolutely every minute of the new experience of living in a different city.
Erin has always been a strong believer in love, which probably had something to do with her father’s hippie values that he instilled in her at a young age. She is currently in a long-term relationship and therefore recognizes herself as having some insight into the topic of love, albeit admitting she still has much to learn. Constantly reading about love in her literature classes have no doubt reinforced her interest in the topic. She confesses she has a fierce addiction to love songs.
Also an avid user of the Internet, like any university student, Erin is interested to discover the effects of this medium on love in society. She is aware that the Internet’s role in society is ever-growing and ever-present and individuals are exposed to it more and more every day. Erin believes that it is therefore crucial that people take some time to think seriously about technology like the Internet that we take for granted every day.
Through the research for this blog and video documentary, Erin would mainly like to find out if Internet dating actually helps people find the love of their lives. Are online-dating websites an appropriate replacement for face-to-face communication with a love interest? Is computer software an effective method of matching up people for the rest of their lives? Can cyber-Juliet ever find her cyber-Romeo? Erin has five weeks to attempt to reveal the answers to these questions and more. The countdown is on. 32 days.
